Who We Are

The Iowa Extension Council Association is made up of a 25-member board of directors who represent the 900 county extension council members in the State of Iowa. Extension council members are elected officials who oversee the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach efforts in their county. These elected officials are responsible for the county's Extension and Outreach budget, directing the county's Extension and Outreach program, and hiring the employees to carry out the work that serves the needs of Iowans.

The Iowa Extension Council Association serves as a vehicle for networking between county extension councils of Iowa, Iowa State University, and government leaders to promote and strengthen all local and statewide Extension programs.

Board of Directors

The Association is run by a 25-member board of directors.  Each region is represented by one director on the board serving a three-year term, with one-county regions being combined for board representation.

The board of directors is elected by the member counties each spring.  They are elected to three-year terms running from July 1 to June 30.  Any current member county may nominate one council member to run for the board of directors.  Nomination forms and a nomination Q&A sheet are under the resources link on the home page of this web site.

IECA Action Plan for 2022-2025

In November 2021, the IECA Board of Directors embarked upon the development of an action plan to guide their work over the next three years from 2022-2025.  The action plan answers the question: Imagine we have fully engaged County Extension Councils, what should IECA do by 2025 to enhance this engagement?  Goals, outcomes, and strategies to achieve the outcomes were developed.
