Employer Update Webinar

Several new federal policies have been enacted impacting county policies and procedures for employers and employees.  Kay Oskvig from Whitfield & Eddy Law recently shared some implications of these new policies on employers.  IECA and County Services is partnering up to share highlights from Kay’s update with council members via Zoom on May 20 at 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.

  • Learn about workplace accommodations employees may request under the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act which goes into effect June 18, 2024.
  • Understand Fair Labor Standards Act new implications for salaried employees and exempt or non-exempt status with salary threshold increases that take place July 1, 2024, and January 1, 2025.
  • Hear information about independent contractors’ status and appropriateness of independent contractors as county-paid employees.
  • Review the legal opinion from Whitfield & Eddy Law about employees serving as volunteers

IECA Executive Director Jennifer Vit and Assistant Vice President for County Services Andrea Welchans will lead the one-hour webinar sharing the information we have to date.  No pre-registration is required. The webinar will be recorded for those unable to view it live.

Please note that updates for county personnel handbooks are being developed and will be shared with counties once they have been reviewed by Whitfield & Eddy Law. Also, some protocols involving these policies are still developing and will need to be implemented as we learn more.
